Summer Daze ~ Fearless Frog Man

More from our trip to Camp Tonkawa Springs...
tonkawa 13
The boys were desperate to catch a frog! Especially my son's friend, Blaine.
He found a hole in the ground and kept listening for them.

There werequite a few around, actually.
I caught a shot of this guy swimming right around us.
Blaine tried to catch him, with no luck.
My husband caught the bigger guy in the pictures below.

He did catch it again though... and it made it home with us. Safely. GRRRRR
Why do I always insist on bringing bug jars on our outings?
I was hoping for maybe a firefly or two in the evening.
But frogs?

And I found this one...
half frog/half tadpole?
How does that even work? When is it one or the other?024

And another kid there found THIS one.
EEEWWWWWWWW!!!
Look at my goofy Aidan smiling in the background...
still wearing that swim ring :-/

He couldn't wait to JUMP right in!!! WOOHOOOOO!!

We went Wednesday to a place called Camp Tonkawa Springs.
It's filled with natural spring water, so it was COLD, COLD, COLD.
Which was refreshing, considering our temps have been in the mid to high 90's.
And don't even get me started on the humidity!

I have SO many pictures to share from this outing
that I'll spread them out over several posts.

camera divider THIS is how Mama Pate does Tonkawa! BAHAHAHAHA!!
I am too big and too old to be swinging from a rope! But it was kinda fun :-)

Moving on....
We played in the "creek".
It does actually run into a creek, but they've cemented a portion of it.

My dorky kids crack me up running around with swim rings on!
Aidan was trying to stop up the flow of the creek.tonkawa 6a

We did some

Lots of neat things to discover.
I could've done without seeing that snake. It was a little snake, but still a snake.
Looks like he had just eaten? Probably a frog!
And Aidan says he found the smallest pine cone "in the history of EVER."

LouLou is a lot like her daddy in that she likes to do her own thing most of the time.
Just kick around and people watch :-)
Look at that beautiful smile!!

Once I finally convinced them to take their floaties/swim rings off,
they felt FREE!!
Aidan is a lot like me in that he never meets a stranger.
He played ball with some strangers for a little while.
And he did a LOT of splashing and rock skipping :-)

FREEEEEEEEE to splash and play......

Camp Tonkawa Springs

Oh, boy.  Am I going to sleep GOOOOOOD tonight.  Or is it well?  Either way, this chick is gonna be cuttin' some zzzzz's.

My youngest son, Aidan (5), my nephew, Trystan (8) and I spent the day at Camp Tonkawa Springs. I've lived here six years and have never been.... why?  Not sure, because it's only 30 minutes away!

They have a huge spring-fed, rock lined pond.  And it is COLD, COLD, COLD.  I just jumped in to get it over with. It seriously took my breath away!  But it is beautiful!  And the kids had a blast.

Here's my crazy brave nephew, Trystan, WAY up there in that tree.
Pretty far away, huh?
For this photo, I'm linking up with Little Somethings.
The photo challenge this week is : FAR AWAY

And down he goes!! Love that look on his face!!!

And he's at it again.
This time it was a back-flip off the bridge.
The shadow is pretty cool too.

Here is a super blurry pic of the three of us :-)
We tried to figure out the auto-timer.
Didn't work out so well.

They play so well together....
most of the time!

This is so cute to me!
We tried and tried to catch this dang butterfly.
So Trystan gives me the "thumbs up" that he could catch it....
but didn't. HAHA
See it fluttering around in front of him?!

Aidan is a bottomless pit right now!
He eats everything in sight!
We had to take a break so he could eat a peanut butter sandwich.
And shovel some chips in his mouth....

Trystan kept messing with Aidan while he was trying to eat his chips.

He'll get him back though :-)

I love this shot of Trystan.
They were getting so tired.

As you can see, Aidan wasn't too happy about having to leave.

I figured these boys would be water-logged.
But nope.
We haven't been home long and they're back outside in the water.
